NJWAN is the only female specific AIDS service organization in the state and one of the first in the nation. Founded in May 1988, it is a non-profit, tax exempt organization.

NJWAN's mission is to:

  1. Reduce the spread of HIV infection in women;
  2. Support the self-determination of women living with HIV/AIDS to better access quality care and treatment;
  3. Educate service providers; and,
  4. Advocate for appropriate policies in the women and AIDS pandemic.
